Talking to Your GP
Both men and boys are underrepresented when we look at the statistics for people with anxiety in the UK. A reason for this may be that men have reported feeling like they don't know their symptoms well enough to seek formal support, and they're worried about being confronted with their emotions. On this page, we break down what your first appointment with a GP will look like so that you have time to prepare before booking.
What Happens at My Appointment?
The GP will ask about your mood
In your first appointment with your GP, they will ask about your thoughts and feelings and how long these behaviours have been going on. They might use a questionnaire for depression or anxiety to get the most information.
The GP will ask about your medical history and your family history
This is important to see if you have been to your GP before for similar symptoms, what worked or didn't work for you then and also to rule out any hereditary issues
The GP will ask about any life changes
Your doctor will ask if there have been any obvious events that may have triggered these symptoms, and any changes in your diet or sleeping pattern.
